Mubarak and Sons Referred to Criminal Court
As protestors demands are voiced louder, Egypt’s chief prosecutor appeases the nation by referring the former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons to criminal court to be tried on charges relating to the deaths of protesters and ordering deadly fire against anti-government protesters, during the January 25 Revolution.
Several of the charges extend to a fled fourth defendant, business tycoon Hussein Salem, accused also of securing deal to supply Israel with gas at lower than usual prices. According to analysts the decision may have come as groups demanding Mubarak’s prosecution planned a mass protest in Cairo for Friday.
Although Authorities had released Suzanne Mubarak on bail this month after she returned assets to the government following charges of corruption and abusing authority for unlawful personal gain, both sons, remain in custody in Tora prison facing a host of accusations including corruption and abuse charges. Their father also remains in detention on charges that include embezzlement of public funds and the killing of anti-government protesters.
Judicial personnel report that Prosecutors cited Mubarak participated by agreeing with the former interior minister Habib al-Adly and some former police commanders, inciting them to shoot the victims and run them over with vehicles.
MENA news agency reports that the public prosecutor had ordered Mubarak’s transfer to a hospital in Cairo’s Tora prison, where his two sons are imprisoned. …more
